Hey everyone,

So I know we have been missing for a while, but I just want to let you know that we are not done blogging! It has been a long few months, between finishing school, summer jobs, and preparing for college in the fall. We will be back, eventually, so please bear with us! Look for some more posts on looking chic for less, and eventually more daily style posts. Thank you so much to everyone who has kept with us, and we promise we will not disappoint in the future 🙂

Spring Fever VoxBox

Hi everyone,

So a while back I joined the site Influenster, which I heard about through some blog somewhere. This turned out to be an excellent decision, for it really is a cool site. Once you join, you can unlock “badges” by writing reviews and taking surveys about things you like. If you’re lucky, however, they will give you a survey for something called a VoxBox. VoxBoxes are cool little packages filled with goodies for you to test out and review. I was lucky enough to be chosen for one (yippee!) and cannot wait to tell you all about it!

The outside of my box, yay!

Everything packed up all nicely

Product One: Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS Rough Rubber Retail $20.00

Since my hair is pretty straight and boring, I let my curly-haired sister test this one out. She really liked the undone finish it gave her hair, but still kept everything in place. In other news, it also smelled really, really good.

Product Two: Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure Retail $5.99-$7.99

I’m not normally one for fake and flashy nails, but I do like the ease of these. Once on, they do not look clawlike, but are instead a nice quasi-natural length. No glue is required (thankfully), so they really are just peel and stick. I also like the pattern a lot, an ode to the lace trend.

Product Three: NYC New York Color Applelicious Glossy Lip Balm Retail $2.99

Upon opening this lip balm, the first thing that caught my attention was the smell. It didn’t have a fake apple smell like most apple products, but instead a nice, sweet, berry smell. Putting it on, it made my lips feel very smooth and gave a nice sheen. Like all lip balms, however, it quickly faded, leaving me applying more and more.

Product Four: Tastykake Kandy Bar Kakes Retail $4.49/Box

I am a total sucker for junk food (how did you know, Influenster!?), and was super excited to see this in my box. It tastes just as good as the name sounds. If Reeses suddenly became a delicious cake, it would be this bar. Just beware of the calories (who cares about those, anyway)

Product Five: Secret Outlast Clear Gel Antiperspirant/Deodorant Retail $4.59

I am not really one for gel antiperspirants, so this was another trial left to my sister. We both agreed that the scent was really good, but the gel got all over clothes. It did stay smelly all day, but wasn’t exactly the best thing for anti-sweat.

That’s all for now! Be sure to check out all of these products on Twitter for the latest scoop!

*I received all of these products care of Influenster. The opinions, however, are my own*

Cool New Brand: Warby Parker

, , , , , , , , ,

Since 2/3 of us wear glasses (and the other third wishes she does because they’re just so dang cool), we are always looking for interesting companies with trendy frames. As many of you have seen, we love to stand out and reject anything boring and normal. That’s why we were so excited to learn more about Warby Parker! For those of you who are not familiar with the brand, they are an online (but branching out into brick-and-motar stores) glasses company who began “as an alternative to the overpriced and bland eyewear available today” We decided to test out their “home try on” program (completely free) and see if we could stumble across something we loved.

Step One: Picking The Frames

Picking the glasses was extremely difficult, considering almost everything on the site was up our alleys. Rachel and I spent a good hour going through everything and choosing frames that we loved. In the end, we were able to narrow it down to the Fillmore, Jasper, Begley, Watts, and Boyd frames and sunglasses. All of the glasses came in a variety of colors, but unfortunately some of the colors we wanted to try were out with other homes. Regardless, we placed our order and waited anxiously for the package to arrive.

Step Two: Placing the HTO Order

After narrowing down our frame preferences, it was time to place our home try on (HTO) order. As I mentioned before, the service is completely free, and allows you to keep the frames for 5 days. Once you’re done trying on and asking for all of your friends’ opinions, you just take the box back to the nearest UPS store and you’re all set! No shipping fees, no nothing. You do need a credit card to order, and a $1 processing fee does show up, but it is eventually waved.

Step Three: Getting Your Frames

Now, for the most exciting part, getting the frames! In about 2-3 business days (that’s how long it took for mine to come), you will get a pretty Warby Parker package in the mail. Upon opening it, you find your 5 frames all laid out in a neat little cloth case. Rachel and I were quick to meet up and try on all the different styles! In the end, she liked the Watts best, while I was more of a Jasper girl. We both were sad to see our new friends go on the 5th day, but hoped we would be seeing them again soon…for good.

Our glasses in the flesh!

Final Step: Saying Goodbye

Once the 5 days of trying on and pretending to be a new person are over, you must send the frames back to Warby Parker so that someone else can have a chance. Like the rest of the process, this is extremely easy, and requires minimal work. There are two ways to send the frames back–either by dropping the package off at a UPS store or calling for a UPS pickup. Either way, it is fast and free.

Overall Experience

Overall, the HTO experience was an extremely pleasant one. Warby Parker makes it really easy to test the frames out and see what you like best. 5 days is plenty of time to get friends and family’s opinions on the glasses, as well as figure out which suits your lifestyle best. We also loved how unique and expensive looking everything they sell is. All of the glasses (even the try ons!) are incredible quality, and come at a great price. We hope to purchase our next pairs of glasses here soon!

Feelin’ Lucky

Leave it to Lucky to provide me with my new favorite pair of jeans for the spring season. Between the trendiness and the quality, I am never let down. Striped pants have been popping up more and more frequently- I tried on a pair of black and white ones with thicker stripes before deciding on these.

After being misguided last week led me to appear “seasonally confused,” when the weatherman said it was supposed to be hot today, I was a bit apprehensive. I decided it was the perfect opportunity to take the tags off of these babes. In case the sun did decide to show itself, I layered a light pink jacket on top of a plain white tank, and brought out the cork wedges.

The final look was springy and simple but still super stylish!

Stuck In The Middle

So, here in New Jersey the weather has been really strange. It ranges from about 30 degrees in the morning to about 60 degrees in the afternoon…crazy, I know. It is almost impossible to dress for this climate, but layering has become my staple! In this outfit, I paired my trusty leather shorts with some tights, and brought another sweater around for when it got cold (the red Lacoste one, previously featured in other posts). DSC_0002 DSC_0005

I’ve been waiting to feature this watch for a long time, and may still do a separate post all about it! While everyone has been hopping on the Michael Kors bandwagon, I stayed true to tradition and opted for a classic Timex. It was purchased on a whim while shopping at Target, and I can’t get enough. I’m looking for new straps to interchange (it’s a Timex Weekender, full size), so if anyone knows where I can obtain them, leave a comment 🙂

As for the necklace, it was actually a gift from my boyfriend! Who knew he had such good taste? I was shocked to open the box on my birthday and find something so pretty! I guess now I should trust his purchasing options (still trying to pin him down to be in a blog post with me, however…you win some, ya lose some)DSC_0008

Once again, I would like to give a special thanks to my sister for becoming my go-to fashion photographer, and to Loehmann’s for always having such reasonably priced and stylish designer items (in case you didn’t know, almost my entire outfit was purchased there. It’s a problem, I know)

Sweater: Theory

Shorts: Rachel Zoe

Boots: Frye

Necklace: Anthropologie via my wonderful boyfriend

Watch: Timex by way of the always fabulous Target

Enjoy this nice weather coming up everyone! Ditch those tights and fish out that cute sundress 🙂

Though the weather here has still been pretty inconsistent, I wore this super chic, long-sleeve, body-con dress on what I anticipated to be a warmer, spring day. It did not turn out to be as nice as I hoped, but I could not care less. I’m a bit obsessed with this dress at the moment, so I enjoyed every second in it. I toyed with the idea of incorporating some more color, maybe bright jewelry, but ultimately decided that the polka dots were a statement enough. Plus, paired with some killer wedges, I was over six feet tall. But hey, embrace it! I received countless complements for this look, even in the following days people continued to mention liking it. A dress this fitted and attention grabbing is not a style I wear often, but it’s always fun to mix it up every once and a while. I would definitely suggest adding a piece like this to your closet if thus far you don’t have one!

Music & Fashion Pairings

There is a ton of interesting new music out there, so I thought what better way to showcase it than to pair it with a cool top!? Enjoy these song and clothing pairings, and be sure to get out there and buy this music!

Snoop Lion & Miley Cyrus: Ashtrays and Heartbreaks

This is one of the most random collaborations out there, but I cannot stop listening to this song. The cool Major Lazer produced beat makes me feel as if though it isn’t 48 degrees in Jersey and I am instead on a beach somewhere. Oh, and did I mention that Miley somehow kills it on this song, because she absolutely does.

Pair this song with this Hawaii print tank from Swell for an overall beachy vibe.

Vampire Weekend: Diane Young

Vampire Weekend is back with an upcoming album and a fresh single that stays true to their prep roots. A lot of drums and guitar make this the perfect song to jam to with the windows down cruising towards Cape Cod.

For a classic prep look, pair this song with a traditional polo from Lacoste (now on sale in certain colors!)

Daughter: Medicine (Chainsmokers Remix)

Elena of Daughter’s haunting vocals add a great base for this progressive house remix. Be sure to check out some of Daughter’s original stuff, and look for their new album coming soon! For now, enjoy this remix as something to rage to.

Try this cutout back shirt from Forever 21. Like the song, it is sweet and calm in the front and wild and ready to party in the back.

Enjoy this music! Hope it inspires more outfits!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!! Sunday was special for my family and I as we celebrate Easter, and we always dress up. I of course was thrilled at my first opportunity to wear this skirt from American Apparel! My Marilyn Monroe moment at church (yikes) was so worth it, I love the 50’s vibe of it and how it swishes with every movement I make. I’m a girl in love!!! I paired my skirt with a blouse and pumps, taking advantage of the warm spring day with some Easter eggs colors. Love taking advantage of this weather (finally!) with some springy colors!! Stay stylin
